I love pop culture. I love consuming it. I love talking about it. I love the art and creativity that goes into it. Pop culture can be a reflection of ourselves and the world around us. It can teach us about people and places that we have never experienced. It can lift us up and bring us down. Help us celebrate and mourn. Bring on calm or rage. Comfort us when we are alone. Bring us closer to friends and family.

Pop culture can make a difference. It can be a vehicle for internal change, showing us truths about ourselves that we never realized. It can empower people by letting them know they are not alone. Pop culture can help us to reevaluate our own limited perspectives. It can go beyond the individual too. At times, pop culture can be powerful enough to promote world change. Cause an uproar. Reveal truths and push limits. Bring light to the forgotten. Justice to the untouchable. Pop culture can be a powerful tool.

Despite my love of pop culture, and my love of writing, I hate writing about pop culture. For a long time I thought it was something to chase as a career. After attempting to scratch down my thoughts, I learned that it strips away the joy I find in it. The act turns my passion into a chore. And yet, I love making lists about pop culture, especially end of the year lists.

I am not an expert on all things. I have a day job. I cannot spend all my waking hours consuming pop culture. I want to avoid wasting my time on the shitty stuff. I want to know that I have not missed the best content. There is a lot of pop culture to wade through, and we can all admit that traversing the good and bad can be difficult. Sometimes it can be hard to find your way to the worthwhile. Relying on others who share your passions and tastes can be a huge help.

Since I enjoy making lists, I figure this site is a great place to post about the things I love. It does no good sitting in a document on my hard drive. Some years I make separate lists for each type of media. Sometimes I mix them together. Some years I only focus on one or two things and ignore the rest. No matter the method, it is a joy to reminisce over the year as I put together a list of my favorite things. These lists may help you recall some of your own or find things you have missed. This page will be a hub for accessing all my favorite fascinations, time wasters, and life changers. I will continue to add new lists, likely within the first couple months of each year. Some years I am faster than others. Older stuff may also pop up on here as time permits.
